Methodology
How this heat pump suitability score works
This checker uses a weighted readiness model rather than a binary yes/no. Insulation level, EPC band, radiator sizing, property age, and region all affect whether an air source heat pump is likely to deliver comfortable heat at lower flow temperatures.
The score starts from a neutral baseline and adds or subtracts points for each input. Homes with better insulation, larger emitters, newer construction, and milder regional design temperatures score higher. Older or leakier homes can still work with a heat pump, but they are more likely to need fabric upgrades or larger radiators first.
Running cost ranges use a simplified annual space-heating demand estimate from floor area, build age, insulation, and region, then compare current fuel costs with an air source heat pump using a seasonal efficiency range of roughly SCOP 2.8-3.4 depending on suitability.
This is a screening tool, not an installation design. Final suitability depends on room-by-room heat loss, emitter sizing, hot water design, available outdoor unit space, noise constraints, and installer survey findings.
